Nachdem ich mir eine Woche lang die Suedinsel angesehen habe, habe ich am 31. Januar neuen meinen Job angetreten. Ich habe auf einem Segelschiff angeheuert. Öfter mal was Neues. Der Job war großartig ich habe zusammen mit einer nettes U.S. Amerikanerin die Crew gestellt. Das Segeln ist nicht das Thema aber wie immer wenn man Englisch in einer neuen Bereich spricht kam auch hier erst einmal die große Leere. Was zum Henker heißt den "Viehr auf die Segel auf Backboard"?

After I had travelled the south island for a week, I started my new holiday job on the 31th of January. I worked as a crew member on a tourist sailing ship. This Job was awesome, I and a nice girl from the states were the staff of the FOX II. I am used to sail, but so far only in Germany. So I got a little bit lost on the first day, I needed to learn all the special words on a boot in English. What is "Ease the sheets on port side" – In German "Viehr auf die Segel auf Backbord".

Dann viel Wasser und Delphine. Jede Menge Hektor Delphine die nicht angelockt werden, sie kommen einfach von alleine zum Boot und reiten auf der Bug welle. Sehr cool. Dann Seelöwen Kolonie anlaufen und blaue Pinguine auf dem Wasser suchen. Dieser Teil ist der schwerste, ein Pinguin und ein Kormoran unterscheiden sich auf der Ferne nicht wirklich, Kormorane gibt es zu hunderten, Pinguine nicht. Hat man ein Pinguin auf dem Wasser treibend gesichtet, der dann aber weg fliegt staunt der Tourist doch ein wenig.

After that, water and dolphins. Heaps of dolphins. They come to the boot without any feeding or so. Anyway it is forbidden to feed them. Then see lions watching and trying to spot blue penguins floating on the surface. Spotting penguins is quite hard. There were a lot of Cormorans (known as shags), but only few penguins. If you spot penguin and a minute later I starts flying, the tourists are a little bit surprised.

Akaroa selbst ist ein kleines Dorf auf der Halbinsel bei Christchruch. Diese Halbinsel war ein riesiger Vulkan, ein paar Millionen Jahre zuvor mehr als 5000m hoch. Nach der letzten kleinen Explosion sind die Berge Akaroa herum ein wenig geschrumpft, nicht mehr als ein paar hundert Meter hoch.

Akaroa on its own is a nice little town on the peninsula close to Christchurch. This peninsula was a volcano more than 5000 meters high, but after the last little explosion the hills around Akaroa are not more than some hundred meter high.

Now I am back in Sydney.
